Is Meditate free or open source?

Yes and yes! Meditate is distributed under the Apache Software License, which provides for free distribution and use for any purpose. The license forbids, however, the use of the name Meditate for new products derived from the source code, and requires that Arlo Leach be credited in the source code and documentation of any derivative products.

The Meditate source code is managed under an open source, closed development model, which means that users may view and modify the source for their own purposes, and may submit enhancement suggestions to the developer, but do not have direct access to the development environment. Suggestions relating to performance, security, and compatibility across server platforms are particularly welcome.

This software is OSI Certified Open Source Software.

OSI Certified is a certification mark of the Open Source Initiative.

Meditate includes the software from two other open-source projects: the TinyMCE WYSIWIG editor and the RogioBiz File Manager.

What are the system requirements?

Meditate requires PHP (version 4 or newer) and MySQL (version 4.1 or newer) on the webserver. This is one of the most popular programming environments available from web hosts. PHP and MySQL run on Linux, Windows and Mac servers with either Apache or IIS, but the Linux/Apache combination is the most common, so you may need a Linux hosting plan to get it.

Meditate is developed by Arlo Leach.
